Realta Blog: Something From Nothing

It has been a great month or so for Realta Horse Racing Club and our members. It has been a whirlwind year in fact but one we have very much enjoyed. It was back in November 2013 we set up the Club and our first horse, a Presenting filly now known as Danielle’s Journey went into training in the first week of January 2013 as a just turned four-year-old. Eleven months down the line our first horse was beaten in a photo finish on debut at Down Royal and finished half-a-length second on her second start at Catterick Races and her two races have shown that D.J. (as we call her) has the capacity to be an exciting horse going forward.

When Tommy and I started the Club we began with little over five thousand pounds, a meagre amount of money in horse racing circles. What we did have in abundance was determination and an ambition to compete at a high level and a hope we could move forward from there and build on strong foundations. From contacting the trainer, pitching our idea, setting up our website, getting a quality horse in training, reaching prospective new members and followers through Social Media, arranging stable visits and schooling races for new shareowners, getting our horse to the track and delivering what we would view to be a first class ownership experience we are now ready to grow again.

The amount of work that has went into bringing the idea of starting a Racing Club from concept to fruition on a shoestring is one I am incredibly proud of and at Realta we are incredibly proud to now have great individuals involved in our horses in training. We are happy to bear the tag of having created something from nothing and we are ready now to build our Club further. Our next horse in training is a beautiful grey Golan four-year-old from the family of Noel Meade’s Wounded Warrior who won yesterday at Navan.
