Realta Horse Racing Club are delighted to add Andrew McNamara to our training team. Having enjoyed a highly successful career as a jockey he now moves into the world of racehorse training and Realta are thrilled to have him on-board. Looking back on his career Andy said “I’ve absolutely loved it, growing up I thought I’d be too big and heavy to be a jockey, but I’ve lived my dream.”
Amongst other notable wins Andy won the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the 2006 Cheltenham Festival on Newmill and won the 2008 Irish Champion Hurdle with Sizing Europe. His other big-race victories included the 2007 Irish Hennessy Gold Cup on Beef Or Salmon and the 2010 Irish Grand National aboard Bluesea Cracker.
Andrew McNamara’s career in the saddle had the best possible ending when the then 32-year-old jockey bowed out with a winner on his final ride at Tramore. Most Honourable provided Andy with the perfect farewell when landing the 2m handicap hurdle by half a length. A 15-times Grade One-winning rider Andy now carries his experience to the training ranks and will impart his knowledge to up and coming riders in his County Westmeath yard.
This season Realta will put our first horse with the Mullingar handler and we look forward to the season ahead with renewed optimism. Realta maintain and strengthen our horses with Co Antrim trainer Stuart Crawford and we plan to grow our geographic coverage and membership in the central counties of Ireland.
